The fall hunting season is in full swing. Every hunter knows that they must head into the woods properly prepared to handle whatever they might encounter while hunting. A high-quality hunting knife is, of course, an important part of a hunter’s gear.
Knives have been associated with hunting since prehistoric times, when ancient hunters processed their catches using flint. As technology advanced, flint was first replaced by bronze and eventually by iron hunting knives, and knives gradually began to specialize according to their intended use.
The most widespread of these was the hunting dagger. We can read about it as early as in Kosmas’s Chronicle, though at that time it was still used as a personal weapon. Virtually every hunter was equipped with a hunting dagger, which they used to finish off game while tracking it down. Mikov manufactures this hunting dagger under the brand name King.
Another type of hunting knife was the so-called “zavazák,” to which we dedicated aseparate blog postthis year . Mikov, of course, also offers a hunting zavazák .
Today, versatile hunting knives with fixed blades are also popular. Mikov offers them either in the basic “Klasik”model or in the more luxurious “Special” model .
However, for most hunters, folding hunting knives are probably the most practical. According to some sources, they didn’t appear in our country until around 1950, but the knife factories in Mikulášovice were already producing them before World War II. Mikov’s folding hunting knives are equipped with a blade lock, and customers can choose whether they want additional features such as a saw or a skinning tool.
Mikov currently sells four types of folding hunting knives. The smallest of these are marketed under the brand name Fixir. Slightly larger hunting knives with an elegant design—though featuring only a single blade—are called Hablock; the medium-sized knives are called Hubert; and the largest are called Hunter.
