The War Veteran Project: Plans and Reality

A long-standing tradition at Mikov is our collaboration with and support for the armed forces. The “War Veteran” project has brought structure and motivation to this tradition, which has been ongoing for years. We regularly contribute to the Military Solidarity Fund while also launching new products.

As human beings, we all share one common trait—we’re guided by what we see right now, and we often make decisions quickly and impulsively. But truly great things cannot be conceived or accomplished overnight. That is why it is good to have long-term plans and to follow them. For Mikov, the “War Veteran” project is one such long-term plan.

Donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of a series of knives to the Military Solidarity Fund is a very simple principle. When we plant new trees in the garden, they gradually bear more and more fruit. The more than 400,000 crowns that Mikov has already donated to the fund through this project is therefore just the beginning. And money is by no means the only fruit.

Mikov is, above all, a company focused on small-scale industrial production, employing dozens of people in its facilities. The limited-edition General Bílý trench knife, as well asthe Storm, Repetitor, and—most recently —Golakknives , presented challenges for our technicians, designers, and knife makers, allowing them to gain new experience. This experience will, of course, pay off in future models we bring to market.

In addition to the funds raised and technical development, there is a third benefit in the form of information that the War Veteran Project disseminates to Czech society. And it’s not just the photographs, brochures, and press releases that Mikov publishes about each knife. The project has inspired many gatherings, brought dozens of people together in new ways, and led to discussions with children, humanitarian auctions, exhibitions, and even the creation of the documentary film“Repetitor—We Cannot Forget.” Thanks to all of this, people are talking about Czech soldiers and their service. Their participation in these missions has also contributed to the fact that today we are a full-fledged and respected member of NATO, one that does not stand alone in the face of threats to our freedom. And that is more important for our entire country and its future than we sometimes realize.
