Tasting Knife

Are you a foodie? Do you love food and enjoy trying new flavors? Is it important to you that the food you taste remains as undamaged and uncontaminated as possible during such tastings? Then you need a tasting knife with a typically long, narrow blade that allows you to easily cut into a piece of cheese or butter, for example. And of course, Mikov hasn’t forgotten about you.

With the development of the food industry and an increased emphasis on quality and specialization in gastronomy, these knives are used not only in cheese shops and wine cellars, but also in restaurants and at culinary competitions, where experts evaluate and compare various products. And since Mikov manufactures professional kitchen and butcher’s knives, it also produces a tasting knife under the brand name Appet.

Every tool must be used correctly. That’s why Mikov has prepared, for example, instructions on how to sharpen knives or use a sharpening steel. Similarly, tasting with a tasting knife involves several key steps that ensure the tasting is conducted hygienically and safely, allowing you to fully appreciate the quality of the product being tasted.

  1. Make sure the tasting knife is clean and dry. If you’re tasting multiple products, start with the one that has the least intense flavor so that the most distinctive one doesn’t overpower the others.
  2. Cut off a small piece. If you’re tasting cheese, try to take samples from different parts of it (center, edge) to get a complete picture of the flavor and texture.
  3. Examine the sample on the knife. Note the color, texture, and any signs of aging or fermentation. Smell the sample directly on the knife. Aroma is a key element in tasting, as many flavor sensations are actually perceived through the sense of smell.
  4. Carefully place a sample in your mouth and let it slowly melt on your tongue. Notice how the flavor and texture evolve. Consider the complexity, balance, and development of the flavor.
  5. After tasting each product, clean the knife to ensure that no previous flavors contaminate the next tasting.

Tasting with a tasting knife is an art that allows you to delve deeper into the mysteries of flavor. That’s why every step is important, from selecting the sample to tasting it. Mikov has prepared the perfect tool for this, and all that’s left is for you to have sufficiently sensitive taste and smell buds.
