We are delighted to announce that today we are beginning to ship our new and long-awaited UTON vz. 74 knife. This exceptional piece is produced in a limited edition of 500 to celebrate the 230th anniversary of knife-making in Mikulášovice. It is the result of meticulous work and an effort to bring back to life the legendary prototype that collectors and knife enthusiasts have longed for for so long.
The UTON vz. 74 was originally designed for scouts but never went into mass production. Based on several surviving prototypes and fragmentary drawings, we decided to bring this historic knife back to life. Production was no easy task—we had to prepare complete technical documentation, design new manufacturing jigs, and develop detailed production procedures. We also had to create and test molds for the plastic sheaths and handles and replace some materials that are no longer in production. The result, however, is well worth the effort.
The knife’s blade is made of high-quality 420 steel, which ensures wear resistance even under demanding conditions. The asymmetrically ground spine of the blade features a hole for inserting the sheath pin, which allows the knife and sheath to be transformed into wire and wire mesh cutters. The ergonomic rubber handle ensures a comfortable and secure grip even in wet or slippery conditions.
The sheath is equipped with two plastic loops on the back: the upper one is used to attach a leather strap, and the lower one to secure the sheath to the thigh. Inside the sheath is a steel plate that secures the blade and prevents it from accidentally sliding out.
Each knife is unique thanks to the serial number on the blade spine. On the other side is the marking “vz. 74” and the traditional engraved Mikov logo.
