In 2015, Mikovis celebratingthe 60thanniversary ofitsbrand,whichwas createdby combiningthe first syllablesof the name oftheformerstate-owned enterpriseMikulášovickýkovoprůmysl. That enterprise wasfounded in 1955through the mergerof theSandrikknifefactorywiththeKoh-i-noorofficesuppliesfactory.
However,the traditionof knife-makinginMikulášovicedatesback tothe18thcentury.Thefirstcutleryfactory—of whichMikov isthedirectsuccessor—wasbuilt byIgnazRösleras earlyas 1794.
Inkeeping with this tradition, Mikovcontinuesto manufactureits entire product lineatitsownfactoryinMikulášovice.Withasignificantportionofthe production processdone by hand, the company placestheutmostemphasis on the qualityof craftsmanship.This ispreciselywhatsetsitsknivesapart fromthesometimesimpersonalproductsofotherknife manufacturers and,in particular, fromimportedknivesfrom Asia.
