The winners of all categories at the International Orienteering Championship, which will take place on Saturday, September 12, in Mikulášovice, will receive knives from the local knife manufacturer Mikov as prizes.
This year, the championship is being held under the patronage of Jiří Kejval, President of the Czech Olympic Committee, and Oldřich Bubeníček, Governor of the Ústí nad Labem Region.
The hiking race is a cross-country run ranging from 2 to 6 kilometers in length. The course is marked with flags, and competitors will encounter a number of checkpoints along the way where they must complete assigned tasks, such as pitching a tent, identifying types of wood, or crossing a rope bridge.
“Since Mikov knives are a traditional piece of equipment for hikers, it’s only natural that we’re very happy to support this event,” said Miloš Pařík, CEO of Mikov.
The race starts on Saturday, September 12, at 9:30 a.m. at the soccer stadium in Mikulášovice. The awards ceremony will then take place at 2:30 p.m. in the town square. The championship will also feature other events, such as a firefighter’s fountain, fireworks, and a dance party.
Mikov is a long-term partner of cultural and sporting activities in the town of Mikulášovice. It also contributes to the town’s cultural life by operating the Museum of Knife-Making Tradition, located on the company’s premises, and by organizing the annual Knife-Making Festival.
