A collection ofpocketknivesfrom theCzechcutlery company Mikov has won the international Red Dot Design Award in the product design category. The award was presented by an international jury, which this year selected from approximately 5,214 products manufactured by companies from 57 countries around the world.
ThePocket knivesaremanufactured based on a design by the Olgoj Chorchoj design studio and come in three sizes—miniature (M), medium (S), and large (L). They were launched in 2015 at the Designblok exhibition in Prague, where they won the award for best new product. In March 2016, Mikov also won first place for thepocketknives in the “Manufacturer of the Year 2015” category at the Czech Grand Design competition.
“The fact that the product has proven itself in terms of design and quality not only within the Czech Republic but also on an international scale is a great honor for us,” said Miloš Pařík, CEO of Mikov.
The Red Dot Award is granted according to strict and rigorous rules by an international jury of 41 experts, including designers, university professors, and trade journalists. The evaluation focuses primarily on the degree of innovation, quality of workmanship, and functionality, as well as the environmental impact of individual products.
“Those who have won the Red Dot Award not only demonstrate exceptional design quality but also confirm that design is an integral part of the process of developing new products,” said Professor Peter Zec, founder and president of the Red Dot Award.
Representatives from Mikov will accept the award alongside other winners at a gala evening on July 4 in Essen. Thepocket knives willthenbe displayed at a special exhibition and will become part of the permanent exhibition of award-winning products at the Red Dot Awards Museum, also located in Essen, Germany.
Mikov is a traditional Czech manufacturer of sports, hunting, and pocket knives. In addition to thePocket knives, the company iscurrentlylaunching a new product, thePatron fixed-blade outdoor knife, which it will officially unveil on April 3, 2016, at theSILVARegina trade show in Brno.
