In early 2017, Mikov completed a long-term project aimed at finding a suitable product name for each knife it manufactures.
“Historically, all knives within the company were identified by a code consisting of letters and numbers, which wasn’t very clear to customers. Moreover, we were convinced that a knife’s shape and craftsmanship also convey emotions, which a name highlights much better than a code,” said Miloš Pařík, the company’s CEO.
Some knives received their names decades ago. “Rybička” (Little Fish) got its name from its shape; “UTON” is originally a military acronym for an assault knife; and “Fixir” was the company’s traditional prefix for a hunting knife.
“But we had to come up with names for other knives. The Les fixed-blade hunting knife, for example, got its name based on a suggestion from fans on Facebook; other names were developed during discussions between the sales and marketing departments,” Pařík continued.
The process of naming the knives took several years. The company’s goal was not simply to give the knives any name, but for the names to also reflect a specific characteristic and relate to the purpose for which they were designed.
“As part of the development of every new knife, in addition to the design and engineering, there is now also a thorough discussion about its name,” concluded Pařík.
In addition to those already mentioned, knife names that have already become familiar to the public include the Rescue knife, the Predator folding knife, and the new List and Pocket models from the Progress series.
