A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of the renovated knife museum in Mikulášovice

The Museum of Cutlery Traditions began full-scale operations on August 1, 2017. The exhibition is located on the first floor of the newly renovated Municipal Information Center in Mikulášovice.

Here, visitors can view knives and office equipment manufactured in local factories over the past decades.

As Mikov director Karel Ježek promised at the museum’s grand opening, this is just the beginning of what the company is preparing in collaboration with the town. The museum will primarily be gradually expanded with new historical information so that it can offer a complete history of the local cutlery industry as soon as possible. Already on display is a documentary about the Mikov state-owned enterprise, which was filmed in the mid-1970s.

In the coming months, the museum will also acquire historical knife-making machines, and exhibits are being prepared that will allow visitors to try their hand at some of the professions within the knife-making craft.

The Museum of Knife-Making Traditions is thus another tourist attraction in Mikulášovice. According to Mayor Miluše Trojanová’s plans, it is intended to serve as the starting point for a planned tourist trail highlighting local landmarks.

If you start your trip to Mikulášovice here, you can head out from this spot to the Tanečnice observation tower, for example, and stock up on supplies for the journey at the Mikova company store—perhaps picking up one of their popular hiking knives.
