Mikov, the largest Czech manufacturer of cutlery and office equipment, feels a responsibility not only for the company’s economic development—which ensures long-term job security for its employees—but also for fostering community life.
“The success of Mikulášovice’s cutlers has, since time immemorial, also been the success of the entire town. That is why it is my wish for Mikulášovice to be a great place to live. One way to achieve this is by supporting community life in the town,” said Karel Ježek, owner and director of Mikov.
Mikov has long supported organizations that work with youth and foster a connection to sports and nature. For example, the company sponsors the local soccer club FK Mikulášovice, the Mikulášovice Biathlon Club, the Czech Breeders’ Association, and the successful Fight Boxing Club.
“We strive to support as many activities as possible. It’s important for life in the town to be diverse. That’s why we’re happy even about the little things—like donating a prize to a raffle for the firefighters’ ball or a school event, supporting a concert, contributing to a field trip for our elementary school children, sponsor a training camp for young soccer players under 15 at Máchovo Lake, or a children’s camp for young breeders,” added Karel Ježek.
Cutlery making and small-scale industrial production have been the main drivers of the region’s development over the past three centuries, and the owners of local factories have always supported the cultural, spiritual, and social development of the region. Mikov feels bound by this tradition and wants to carry it on.
“We don’t want Mikulášovice to be some kind of outpost. That’s why we’re also trying to develop tourism by operating the Museum of Knife-Making Traditions. Anything that helps local people will, in the long run, make the town a truly attractive place to live, because people will find both good jobs and high-quality leisure activities here,” concluded Karel Ježek.
Mikov is a traditional manufacturer of a full range of cutlery and office equipment. The company is wholly owned by Czech capital and currently provides more than 100 jobs in Mikulášovice and the surrounding area.
