Mikov, as a purely Czech company, wants to use a limited edition of 100 letter openers featuring an embossed postage stamp to commemorate the fact that the first Czechoslovak postage stamp was issued on December 18, 1918. The design—a depiction of Hradčany—was created by the famous painter Alfons Mucha.
“For this occasion, we chose to produce a special letter opener because letters and stamps are very closely related,” said Mikov’s director, Karel Ježek, adding that “the letter opener also brings together both of the company’s product lines—knives and office equipment.”
Only 100 numbered knives are available for sale, presented in a deluxe box in the national colors, priced at 1,918 CZK including VAT. This second limited-edition series of Mikov knives this year will include a brochure and a certificate.
Mikov is a Czech company based in the heart of Bohemian Switzerland that directly carries on the region’s centuries-old tradition of cutlery and small-scale manufacturing. The office supplies and industrial fasteners that Mikov sells in the Czech Republic and abroad, in addition to its knives, are known under the RON brand.
