What Commandos Stand For

The military dagger we sell under the name "Commandos" is based on a weapon with a famous tradition—the F-S dagger, which was developed during World War II. The abbreviation “F-S” stands for the initials of its creators, the famous English military close-quarters combat instructors W. E. Fairbairn and E. A. Sykes.

It was a purely military weapon designed for the silent elimination of enemy soldiers, particularly patrols and guards.  It is therefore designed to inflict the deepest possible wounds with heavy bleeding. An enemy wounded in this way would be unable to sound the alarm or call for help.

The dagger’s narrow blade easily pierced uniforms, and even ribs were no obstacle. Furthermore, the metal hilt was well-suited for delivering blows.

The dagger was part of the standard issue for British commandos, paratroopers, and the SAS. A slightly modified version was also used by the U.S. Marine Corps. Importantly, Czechoslovak paratroopers, who were deployed to our territory during World War II, were also equipped with this dagger.

One of the dagger’s designers, Captain William Ewart Fairbairn, also participated in the training of the Anthropoid commando unit, which on May 27, 1942, carried out a military operation aimed at assassinating SS General Reinhard Heydrich.

By adding this dagger to its product line, Mikov is appealing primarily to enthusiasts of weapons and military history. The dagger was alsopart ofthe long-sold-outlimitededition of Prim Orlík Anthropoid watches.
