We offer a wide range of hunting knives—for example, the Fixiror Hunter folding knives, as well as fixed-blade models. But how do you choose the right one for your specific needs? Since hunting knives are meant to last a very long time—sometimes practically a lifetime—it’s important to consider all your options carefully. We believe that answering the following questions will help you make the right choice.
Why do you need it? Are you a hunter who bags dozens of game animals each year? Or do you simply like hunting knives and want to take them with you on nature hikes, where you’ll mostly use them by the campfire to sharpen sticks for roasting sausages?
Do you need a fixed-blade or a folding knife? A fixed-blade knife is sturdier, must be carried in a sheath, and is, of course, more durable in use. Folding knives, on the other hand, are more practical and easier to store, but they can’t withstand such rough handling, and cleaning them is also more difficult. Experts therefore recommend carrying a fixed-blade knife as your main knife and keeping a practical folding knife in your pocket as a backup.
Do you hunt large or small game? How do you process it? For gutting game, the knife needs to have a sufficiently sharp serrated edge for cutting through bones, and it should allow you to skin the game comfortably and without much effort—for which these knives are equipped with a special blade.
How are you at sharpening? The knife must be as sharp as possible, so its steel should be able to hold an edge. Mikov knives do not prioritize extreme hardness; instead, they cater to hunters who like to resharpen their knives themselves with minimal effort—even out in the woods.
Does it fit comfortably in your hand? The knife’s handle is just as important as the blade. Above all, it must provide a secure grip and not slip. Traditional handles made of wood, bone, or antler are still the clear choice for many hunters.
Of course, choosing the right knife is also a matter of personal taste. But hopefully these questions will help you choose the one that’s best for you. You can find our complete selection of hunting knives here.
