Mikov has launched a line of kitchen knives with blue handles, whose blades are tempered using the Martfrost deep-freezing method. The company aims to highlight this technology, which was developed based on a patent by the famous Czech metallurgist Jaroslav Jech.
Mikov used this hardening method from the 1970s through the 1990s. It was applied primarily to kitchen knives, hunting knives, and UTON military-grade knives . However, since modern stainless steel has approximately the same properties as the earlier steel from SONP Kladno that was hardened using the Martfrost method—and because this method also had a significant environmental impact—Mikov has moved away from this hardening process.
Martfrost kitchen knives come in two sizes and are delivered in a gift box bearing the Martfrost logo.
Mikov is the oldest traditional Czech manufacturer of knives, office equipment, and industrial fasteners and nailers. Since January 2019, it has also included the hand tool manufacturer Narex Bystřice.
