Mikov and the Manufacture of Office Supplies

Mikov is not just a knife factory; our product range also includes office supplies. However, their production is not just a matter of the last few years, because, just like knife production, it has its roots in past centuries.

It was in 1867, in Lipová—a village near Mikulášovice, in the heart of Bohemian Switzerland—that local resident Johann Hille founded a factory for the production of thin sheet metal (aluminum foil) and rolled wire. He started modestly, in a single production hall, but as his business prospered, he soon expanded production to six halls. By the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, it had become the largest company in its field in northern Bohemia.

However, the factory did not limit itself to sheet metal and wire; it also expanded production to include knives and kitchenware. During the First Republic, however, it focused on the production of paper clips and small metal products—a line of business that has essentially remained unchanged to this day.

After World War II, the company was nationalized and incorporated into the state-owned enterprise KOH-INOOR Mikulášovice. After 1955, when Mikov was founded, it became one of its branch plants. Following privatization in 1991, the company in Lipová became independent and was renamed Conmetron, s. r. o. In 2017, after the acquisition of Mikov, it merged with Mikov s.r.o. once again.

And so, today, office supplies—paper clips, magnets, thumbtacks, hole punches, and staplers—once again fall under the Mikov brand. Their Ron brand is known for its distinctive red-and-blue boxes, found not only in every Czech office but also in a significant number of offices across Europe and around the world. Another product line includes clamps with tools designed for industrial use in woodworking, as well as for small carpentry shops.
