Neodymium Magnets—They're Truly Powerful

Magnets are another very important part of Mikov’s product line, alongside knives and industrial fasteners. These can, of course, be the standard types, which we offer in a wide variety of colors, but they also include neodymium magnets, which are very interesting and which we’d like to focus on a bit more today.

Neodymium magnets are made from a mixture of neodymium, iron, and boron. The combination of these three elements creates the strongest type of permanent magnet, capable of lifting up to a thousand times its own weight. This, of course, immediately opens up a wide range of applications.

The most common use is on glass magnetic boards. But they’re also suitable, for example, for attaching window screens against insects or other objects to a metal surface. Although our neodymium magnet is just a small cube with 1-centimeter-long edges that weighs a little over 7 grams, it can hold a force of 5.1 kilograms on its own.

However, even neodymium magnets have their pitfalls, which we must point out. First, they should not be exposed to temperatures higher than 80 degrees, as they lose their magnetism at that point. The other issue concerns safety. They must be handled with great care. Their strong magnetic field can erase data on storage media or damage computers and monitors. And the pull of a neodymium magnet is so strong that if it gets close to a metal part and you happen to have your finger in the way, it can actually hurt quite a bit.

In any case—you’ve got to try them out!
