The knives we manufacture in Bohemian Switzerland have found their place on both the domestic and international markets. We produce small batches; we want them to be unique in their design and craftsmanship. And we want customers who purchase a Mikov knife to know that they are holding guaranteed quality in their hands.
We therefore do not compete with Asian manufacturers who flood the market daily with millions of interchangeable knives, with high-tech companies where human hands never actually touch the components, nor with knife makers who produce custom-made knives one at a time.
Our production combines cutting-edge technology—CNC-controlled machine tools, presses, and grinders—with the handiwork of experienced knife makers. Because only a true master can, for example, judge how to properly trim the antler for the handle. And there are several similar operations that require thought and skill in the production of nearly every knife.
But even the greatest master can sometimes make a mistake, and we must catch it before the knife leaves the shipping department and is sent to the customer. That’s why the knife’s components undergo several ongoing inspections during production. Finally, every single knife undergoes a final inspection, and in the accompanying certificate, you’ll see the stamp or signature of the responsible employee who approved the knife for shipment to you, the customer.
Of course, it is possible that, despite these measures, a product may exceptionally reach the market where a defect went undetected. In that case, we ask that you include the final inspection certificate with your return, which will help us prevent similar errors in the future.
It is also possible that you may receive a knife that does not have this quality certificate. This is because it was manufactured before we implemented such a final inspection. However, our experience shows that in the more than one year since this process was implemented, very few knives have been returned to us for complaints.
Personal responsibility pays off.
