There aren’t many knife makers who have made such a name for themselves among knife enthusiasts over the past thirty years as Mr. Lubomír Maďarič. A trained locksmith who also excelled in track and field and weightlifting in his youth, he began making his first knives as early as 1972. Since then, he has become—in the best sense of the word—a master of nine crafts, and while he has worked in a wide range of professions, he has remained faithful to knives throughout. He has been making them professionally since 1993.
Among Lubomir Maďarič’s notable achievements is not only the fact that former U.S. President Bill Clinton owns one of his hunting knives, but above all that he has been crafting knives for the military and police since 1997. The knives, developed in collaboration with military expert Roman Hippík, have proven their worth to military specialists on missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other places.

In addition to being an accomplished knife maker, Lubomír Maďarič is also the president of the Society of Art Knife Makers of Bohemia and Moravia (BMAC) and is responsible for organizing international knife exhibitions in Brno, which have gained worldwide renown thanks in part to him.
But no one can stop the passage of time. Although Lubomír Maďarič is far from ready to retire, he found himself increasingly thinking about how to ensure that his knives would continue to be produced to the same high standard even after he could no longer devote all his time to their manufacture. And the solution came from Mikulášovice in northern Bohemia.

Mikov, as the traditional and largest Czech knife manufacturer, has been collaborating with Lubomír Maďarič for many years. Thanks to their strong relationship and mutual trust, it was not difficult to reach an agreement that will allow the Maďarič knife brand to continue for many decades to come.
Under this agreement, Mikov will take over production entirely starting in the summer of 2020. What does this mean specifically? For anyone interested in Maďarič knives, there will be no major changes, as the most popular models will be available for order on Mikov’s e-shop. In addition to the knives already available, more will be added gradually, and you can also look forward to new releases.

And what about new releases? Mr. Lubomír Maďarič will continue to oversee his brand’s models and will also contribute to the design and development of new knives. However, he will not develop the brand independently outside of Mikov, and Mikov will become its exclusive distributor.
In addition to knife production, the mutual agreement also covers the organization of the renowned Brno knife exhibitions. These will continue as well, and Mikov will fully take over their organizational and technical management from Mr. Maďarič.

According to the original plans, this collaboration was to be announced at this year’s Brno Super spring exhibition. However, that event was canceled due to measures related to the spread of COVID-19, so we are instead announcing it via this blog post and press release.
As a company, we are proud that a figure of such stature as Lubomír Maďarič has placed his trust in us. We view this above all as a great responsibility, as we realize how much work and effort went into building this brand. We are therefore determined to do everything we can not only to preserve its reputation but, on the contrary, to take it to an even higher level in collaboration with Lubomír Maďarič.
