When we launched a limited edition of the UTON knife made from N 690 steel in 2018 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, it sold out within 20 minutes of its release. The response was overwhelming, and so was customer demand for the UTON to be produced from this steel as standard.
On Saturday, May 17, 2020, we posted another limited edition of the UTON military knife made from N 690 steel on our website without any prior notice. This was a test run, a numbered “zero series” consisting of a total of 39 pieces. It sold out practically immediately, and we’re still receiving emails with inquiries from other customers. However, no knives from this limited edition are currently available, nor will they be—we expect that those sold will become rare collector’s items.
Nevertheless, we can make one firm promise—we’ll be launching a new series of UTONs before the summer break—it will be numbered 0008, will not be limited in quantity, and will be made of N690 steel. Every customer will therefore have a choice: they can opt for standard stainless steel, which they can easily sharpen themselves in the field—which, incidentally, was one of the military’s requirements for the original UTONs. Or they can choose a harder, higher-quality steel, though sharpening it will require more experience.
