The nostalgia of old black-and-white photographs lets us hear the voices of times long past, when not only did no one know what cell phones were, but electricity in homes was a rarity, when Mikulášovice was known as Nixdorf, and when the people pictured had no idea what the future held for them.
But artificial intelligence can colorize these old photographs, and suddenly everything in them seems more contemporary to us. Were it not for the old machines and anachronistic hairstyles and clothing, the people from the past look just like our contemporaries.

Old machines powered by gear transmissions, knife grinding and sharpening processes that at first glance seem uncomfortable and dangerous, offices full of technical drawings where no one even dreamed of a digital version—all of this, however, led to the creation of exceptionally high-quality knives, with which the local cutlers conquered not only the Austro-Hungarian Empire but all of Europe and overseas markets.

You can view some of these unique historical pieces in our museum, which is open daily at the Mikulášovice Information Center. And when you visit, you can purchase knives from our current collection in the museum shop—whether you’re interested in hunting knives, military knives, craft knives, outdoor knives, or knives that win design competitions—all, of course, bearing our Mikov brand.

And if you can’t make it to see us anytime soon, Mikov knives are also available through our online store.
