The story, which came to an end this past March, began sometime around 2015. That’s when a new maintenance worker joined our team—let’s call him Mr. N. Around the same time he started, ads for well-preserved Predator switchblades began appearing on Aukro. In short, as local experts said, not a single Predator had been sold in a store within a 50-kilometer radius of Mikulášovice since then, because those interested in them had other channels.
It took two years for the scheme to be uncovered, when a journalist alerted the then-sales director to the suspicious sales listings. It was soon discovered that Mr. N. was behind them, having made nearly 600,000 crowns for himself over the course of two years. However, the value of the knives he stole from Mikov was significantly higher—exactly 1,342,720 CZK. At least, that was the specific amount determined by the District Court in Děčín in its Judgment in the Name of the Republic, which was handed down against Mr. N. on March 17, sentencing him to 30 months of imprisonment with a 36-month suspended sentence. And, of course, to pay damages.
Much has changed since this whole story began. Mikov has a new owner, new managers, and, most importantly, a new inventory and control system in which it is practically impossible to steal anything. However, none of this means that we will simply brush off the damages. We will demand compensation from Mr. N., and we will use the money we recover from him to benefit those whom Mr. N.’s theft harmed the most—our employees. The entire proceeds from the compensation will be distributed equally among them.
