It’s not just major events like the Nožíry Festival, the construction of the Museum of Nožíry Traditions, or the War Veteran project where Mikov strives to help. There are many talented and capable people in our community with whom we want to help make their dreams and plans a reality.
Of course, we can’t support everyone who needs help and turns to us. That’s why we’ve established certain guidelines. We primarily support local activities related to sports, nature, hunting, and conservation.
So who exactly do we help? Of course, the FK Mikulášovice soccer club, which has four youth teams and one adult team. Thanks to soccer, dozens of boys from Mikulášovice have the opportunity to spend their free time in a meaningful way. In addition to soccer, the boxing club also offers them a chance to burn off energy and learn the basics of fair play—and we certainly don’t forget to support them as well.
The Youth Hiking Club also offers a high-quality program for our children. Its members have won medals in hiking competitions, even on the European stage. We are proud of them, and supporting them is also one of our priorities. Last but not least, we also support Adéla Bryndová, a promising trap shooter.
However, it’s not just athletes who help create a positive atmosphere in our city. We also sponsor the local volunteer fire department, the hunting association, and interesting events that take place here and in the surrounding area—whether it’s the Mikulášovická Řežba sculpture symposium, the Lipovský Dřevák festival, or even small races, obstacle courses, and the like.
And last but not least, we have the Gaston Memorial in Děčín—a long-distance swimming race in memory of the famous sea lion Gaston, who escaped from the Prague Zoo into the Vltava and Elbe rivers during the 2002 floods. And even though he was eventually pulled from the water, he didn’t survive his great adventure. Of course, we can’t help Gaston anymore, but by supporting his memorial, we’re drawing attention to the need for nature conservation.
Of course, we can’t change the whole world for the better, but we tell ourselves that perhaps, thanks to our support, things can be at least a little better somewhere. It’s worth it to us.
