1. Let’s Keep Our Knives Sharp
Every knife becomes dull with use—and cutting with a dull knife is not only inefficient and labor-intensive, but also dangerous. You can find instructions on how to sharpen knives properly here.
2. Keep your knives clean
It’s not just that a dirty knife looks unappealing and says unpleasant things about its owner. Long-term exposure to dirt also damages the structure of both the handles and the blades. Of course, we don’t put knives in the dishwasher, because harsh detergents damage the edge, but we always wash them thoroughly with lukewarm water after use and dry them thoroughly.
3. Store Knives Carefully
Knives should be stored in a dry place, ideally in their original sheaths, so that their blades do not come into contact with other metal objects or other knives. Scratched handles and nicks on the blades do not reflect well on the owner. For long-term storage, it is advisable to treat the metal parts with oil specifically designed for knives.
