Our new product— the colorful EDC LIST with a CERAKOTE coating—brings new properties to knives. This is because CERAKOTE is a coating developed by the American company NIC Industries and is therefore not merely a paint finish.
The ceramic-based CERAKOTE coating is used in applications requiring abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, color fastness, and corrosion resistance. The material is first coated and then literally “baked” at high temperatures.
Since this technology has been on the market, surfaces treated in this way have undergone a wide range of tests, which have proven that CERAKOTE truly possesses the advertised properties. You can view all the tests, a comprehensive overview, the results, and a video here.
Before we decided to offer this surface treatment on the LIST knife to our customers, it was important for us to test its durability and abrasion resistance in particular. The LIST comes with a Kydex sheath into which the knife must be inserted, which could potentially cause the knife’s surface to become scratched.
Our technicians addressed this issue with the supplier, and of course, we tested everything thoroughly. The knife itself does not get scratched during use; the only marks left on it are traces of Kydex from the sheath. However, these can be easily removed with a damp cloth.
So there’s no need to worry about the color options for the LIST knives—feel free to order them.
