Knives as symbols

11. března 2024

Knives are, of course, primarily tools or weapons. But in addition, in ancient cultures they have also served as symbols of rank and adornment, representing power, prestige or social status. You can still find such knives and cold weapons in the Mikov range today.

Richly decorated daggers have been preserved from the Bronze Age, indicating the high status of their owners. The Middle Ages knew, among other things, ceremonial swords used in coronation ceremonies. Knives, daggers and swords were used to confirm the social status of soldiers, but also of officials, craftsmen or merchants. In the spirit of this tradition, customs officers still had their swords in the first half of the 20th century, for example, and Mikov produces a faithful replica for collectors and fans of cool weapons.
In the category of ceremonial or ornamental weapons we can include in Mikov's production the commemorative sword, the walking sabre, the aerial sword, the passport hunting fang and hunting daggers. But knives - symbols can be all custom knives, luxury Predator knives or hunting knives with blades with handles made of bone, antler, meteorite or even mammoth metal. These are very high quality knives with a great deal of expert handwork.
But standard knives can also serve well as symbols - Fishlet with blades printed with various patterns, metal Stovka knives with cut glass decorations or with embossed picture handles. In addition, Mikov offers each customer the possibility of engraving their own inscriptions or pictures on the blades, handles or even gift cases and boxes.
A knife can therefore still be a symbol that says a lot about its owner, just as it did in the Bronze Age. Moreover, originally decorated knives can become a legacy that transmits a message from generation to generation, emphasising important family or social traditions. Perhaps you can draw attention to such a tradition, or start a new one, and pass it on. Mikov will be of the utmost assistance to you in doing so.
