The quality and aesthetics of a knife is not only determined by its blade, but also by its handle. One of the traditional materials for handles is antler. Although the processing of antler into sheaths is not easy and requires craftsmanship and care, knives with such handles are still popular for their aesthetics. Mikov therefore uses antler in a number of its products.

Of course, the most popular knives with antler handles are hunting knives, specifically the Fixir, Hunter or Hubert closing knives, specialized deer daggers. This is logical, as antlers naturally belong to hunters and their culture. However, antler is also popular with arguably Mike's most famous knife worldwide, which is the Predator.

How does Mikov make antler handles? He uses traditional, centuries-old techniques, of course. The well-dried antler is first cut into the appropriate parts to match the required knife design. Any flattening is then carried out using heat. The semi-finished product is then individually adjusted by grinding and polishing to the specific knife blade so that the knife fits perfectly in the hand and nothing gets in the way or presses on the knife.

Each piece of knife with an antler sheath is actually a unique original that is very pleasant to the touch. The great advantage is also that the antler has natural thermal insulation, so that the handle of the knife, especially when working in winter, does not get cold so quickly and the knife is more comfortable to work with.

To ensure that knives with antler handles serve their owners well and for a long time, they also need to be well cared for. Although maintenance is not too demanding, Mikov recommends some basic rules. First of all, the knife should be cleaned after each use. All you need to do this is lukewarm water, mild detergent, a soft cloth, sponge or brush. Under no circumstances should knives with antlers on the handle be washed with aggressive detergents or in dishwashers.

The knife should be stored out of direct sunlight, not exposed to high temperatures when in use, and the handle should occasionally be coated with food grade oil or a hunting trophy care product. The knife should be stored in a natural environment, but not too dry that the blades start to crack.
